Beginning
RetroStix began as a board repair business, Lord of the Dings. Head Shaper and owner, Mauricio De Souza, aka “Moura,” first started repairing surfboards back in 1976 in his hometown, Rio de Janeiro.

Moving to New York, he did repairs on boats and surfboards until, in 1994, he headed to San Diego in search of warm beaches and better surf.

To Shaping
Moura's passion has always been surfing itself. Doing repairs is what allowed him to create a life around being in the water. Great work and a tight community have opened the door to pursuing board designs and creation.

Repairs will always be a sentimental part of the business, but board engineering is what stokes the fire to keep creating.
